Reading Recovery/First Grade Room
Reading Recovery is an early intervention that helps the lowest achieving first grade children to develop effective strategies for reading/writing and reach average classroom levels in twelve to twenty weeks. The goal of Reading Recovery is to help children become independent readers with internal self-extending systems for learning. Reading Recovery operates within educational systems through three key components:
1. intensive daily one-to-one instruction for first grade children who are at risk of reading and writing difficulties;
2. on-going training through which Reading Recovery teachers are instructed in proven Reading Recovery techniques;
3. a research program that monitors individual school's results and provides on-going support to teachers and school districts.
Parents are invited to attend one of the child's lessons and are an important part of their child's learning. Each evening a selection of familiar books and the child's own writing are sent home for sharing with parents and other family members.
