Mr. Bruce’s U.S. History
Mr. Bruce’s U.S. History
Eighth grade U.S. History at Union City Middle School is actually the integrated study of the social sciences – history, economics, civics, and geography – to prepare our students to become responsible citizens. Responsible citizens display knowledge of our society, its history, and the emerging trends likely to shape its future. They are also ready to assume the responsibilities of a citizen and make informed decisions for the public good. We will have a lot of fun learning about the various events and decisions that created the society in which we live.
The course, although it is called “History,” is intended to be a full social studies course. This means that through the survey of U.S. History from before the War for Independence to Reconstruction, we are to weave in and out of the various social sciences – history, geography, civics, and economics. Spread over ten units, the class covers the following topics: The French and Indian War, The War for American Independence, The Constitution, Americas Early Years, The War of 1812, American Westward Expansion, The Civil War, and Reconstruction (and what happens in between).
