Welcome to Mrs. Serafin's Reading Recovery
1st Grade Room
Reading Recovery is an early intervention program that helps the lowest achieving first grade children to develop strategic processes for reading/writing and reach average classroom levels in twelve to twenty weeks. The goal of Reading Recovery is to help children become independent readers with internal self-extending systems for learning. Reading Recovery operates within educational systems through three key components:
• intensive daily one-to-one instruction for first grade children who are at risk of reading and writing difficulties
• ongoing training and support for Reading Recovery teachers in proven Reading Recovery teaching techniques
• a research program that monitors individual school's results and
provides ongoing support to teachers and school districts
Parents are invited to attend one of the child's lessons and serve as partners in supporting their child's literacy development. Each evening familiar books and the child's own writing are sent home for sharing with parents and other family members.
