Multimedia Contest

Grades 9-12: Podcasts

 

Purpose: to encourage students to utilize their creativity and use of multimedia to create an enhanced podcast or video podcast for online viewing.


Eligibility:

The contest is open to all Michigan students in grades 9-12.  Students may be enrolled in public or private school, and may enter either as an individual or as part of a team.  Students may only participate in one project


A teacher must sponsor the entrant(s), being responsible for the supervision of the project creation and the actual entry submission.  The teacher may not participate in the production of the project. A single teacher may sponsor up to three (3) entries.  Entrants must also include the principal’s consent for contest entry (part of the contest application).


Guidelines:

Here are guidelines for the project:

  1. Project must be a 9-12 classroom-generated project produced between March 2008 and February 1, 2009

  2. Project must be completely created by student(s).

  3. Contest Applications and Project submissions MUST be received by the deadlines given.  Failure to do so will result in a non-entry.

  4. Project content must be appropriate for 7-12 viewing, and no worse than the equivalent of a “PG” rating.

  5. Project may be created using any program, as long as the final project is a file type that can be imported into and viewed using iTunes.

  6. Project must be an enhanced podcast (audio podcast with screen shots, pictures graphics, etc) or video podcast.

  7. Project must have a clear purpose; for example, it may tell a story, teach a concept, or provide information.


Here are the guidelines for the documentation within the application:

  1. All software used in project creation and viewing needs to listed

  2. Details on the purpose and development of the project should be limited to what would be useful to the judges

  3. All sources of information need to be included with proper citation

Failure to follow the above guidelines will result in a non-entry.

Judging & Awards:

1.Contest Applications are due from sponsoring teachers by midnight February 9, 2009

2.Podcast must be submitted by midnight February 9, 2009

3.All MACUL members will be invited to participate in the online judging February 10-20, 2009.  Judging of entries will be based on the rubric posted and available for download.

4.Sponsoring teachers of winning entrants will be notified via email by February 27, 2009.

5.All sponsoring teachers will receive their entrants rubric scores & comments, along with the contest results via email by March 2, 2009

6.Awards will be given to the top three entries as follows:

a.Overall Winner: $150 plus $100 worth of professional books from Linworth Publishing, Inc

b.Second Place Winner: $100 plus $50 worth of professional books from Linworth Publishing, Inc

c.Third Place Winner: $50 plus $50 worth of professional books from Linworth Publishing, Inc


Application Deadline:

Contest applications are due by midnight February 9, 2009.  The application may be filled out and submitted using one of these methods:

1. Via email by filling out the form and submitting it to mwaffle@unioncityschools.org;

3.Or by fax to 517-741-5205 marked Attention: Melinda Waffle, RE: SIGMM Multimedia Contest.


Projects are due by midnight February 9, 2009.  These may submitted either:

1.Via email, by sending all files as attachments to mwaffle@unioncityschools.org

2.By posting the entry to a website and sending the URL of the entry to mwaffle@unioncityschools.org
